 Your thermostat is the control interface for your heating system: it displays the temperature and tells the furnace when heat is needed. The furnace produces and circulates that heat. A heating problem may therefore need attention at the furnace, even when you first notice it at the thermostat.

Thermostat screen goes blank or turns off intermittently

 Your Otto thermostat receives its power from the furnace. If the furnace shuts down in response to a fault or safety condition, the thermostat may also turn off or restart. In this situation, the blank screen is a symptom of the furnace shutting down, rather than a reason to replace the thermostat.

 A dirty or faulty flame sensor, restricted airflow, or another furnace issue can interrupt heating or trigger a safety shutdown. A local HVAC technician can inspect the furnace, review any fault codes, and carry out the required maintenance or repair.

Heat is selected, but only cool air comes from the vents

 A brief period of cool airflow can be normal when heating starts. If Heat is selected and your home needs heating, but the air stays cool after the normal startup period, arrange for a local HVAC technician to inspect the furnace. The furnace may be running its fan without producing heat because of an ignition problem, safety shutdown, or another equipment fault.

When to contact a furnace technician

 If the thermostat repeatedly turns off or your home is not heating, contact a qualified furnace or HVAC service provider in your local area. Ask them to inspect and service the furnace, including its fault codes, sensors, and safety controls. These symptoms should be addressed through furnace maintenance and diagnosis.
